Subluxation - Like A Pebble In Your Shoe
How Is Subluxation Like A Pebble In Your Shoe
Recently, I went out for a run in my neighborhood. My goal was to run for 25 minutes to improve on the 20 minutes that I ran a few days earlier. As I hit the 15-minute mark, I noticed that I had a pebble that got in my right shoe. It was lodged under my heel and quickly starting to irritate me. The irritation was more in my mind then my foot since it didn’t cause any pain.
For a moment, I thought I will just keep running until I finish and then take it out. I really didn’t want to stop, especially since I had momentum going up a hill. I realized after a few dozen more strides that my body was starting to change technique in order to compensate for the pebble. I didn’t want to hit straight on and continue to jam it into my heel so I changed my gait.
At this point I stopped, took the pebble out and in ten seconds picked up my stride once more. I could have kept going, changed my gait and gone from there. However, I know that making that change would cause issues in my knees, hips, feet or spine. They may not happen at that time but eventually they would. The easy solution, while not convenient at that time, was to simply take the pebble out.
Subluxation Causes Misalignment In Your Spine
What if I were to tell you that chiropractic is exactly like this? That annoying pebble in your shoe is just like the subluxation causing misalignment in your spine. It may cause slight or severe discomfort. It may be just an irritation to you but it will force you to work from an unbalanced foundation. Your body has to compensate by using muscles, joints and other structures in less-than-ideal ways. Over time, if it is not corrected, it will lead to dysfunction in our bodies.
The best thing to do is take the pebble out. Get checked by a chiropractor and get adjusted so your spine can be in optimal alignment to function at your best.
