What is the Webster Technique?
Created by Dr. Larry Webster “for laboring women to help with the ease of birth,” the Webster Technique is a unique set of chiropractic adjustments resulting from an analysis of the sacrum. The technique addresses misalignments, called subluxations, that create dysfunction in the sacrum and SI joint in order to create optimal functioning of the pelvis.
What are the benefits of being adjusted during pregnancy by a Webster technique certified chiropractor?
There are several ligaments that attach the uterus to the abdominal wall and sacrum, and when the sacrum is misaligned, it creates unequal strain on these ligaments and malposition of the uterus within the pelvis. This leads to two main issues:
1. Joint discomfort for mom
2. Intrauterine constraint – less than optimal space for baby in the womb resulting from the malposition of the uterus within in the pelvis
Adjustments from Dr. Evan can remove subluxations which allows for proper nervous system function, reduced discomfort and restored pelvic function for mom.
How do these adjustments affect the birth process?
When baby has appropriate space to move within the womb, it can increase the likelihood that baby will be head down and in the preferred position (left occiput anterior) at the onset of labor. This can help reduce the overall length of labor and increase mom’s comfort during it.
A misaligned pelvis can also change the shape of the bowl of the pelvis itself, making it more difficult for babies to descend through. Dr. Evan works with his pregnant patients to align the pelvis in order to best facilitate a vaginal birth.
Are chiropractic adjustments comfortable when pregnant?
Yes! Dr. Evan has specialized adjusting tables that comfortably and safely accommodate growing pregnant bellies. These tables lower in the center so that when it is necessary for mom to lay on the table face-down, there is an open space for her stomach and no restraining surfaces.
Are chiropractic adjustments safe during pregnancy?
Yes! The Webster Technique has been used effectively and safely for almost 40 years.
