Dr. Evan and his wife, Lauren, share a passion for serving growing families in their area. They understand the significant impacts the birth process has on both mom and baby, and desire for women to have an amazing birth experience through not only the physical support of chiropractic care, but also through evidence-based education and emotional support.

This desire is what lead Lauren to become a certified childbirth educator and doula. She teaches in-person and virtual childbirth education classes, and is currently accepting doula clients. Below is a summary of Lauren’s services, and you can learn more detailed information on her philosophy, birth education classes, and services by visiting her website, Lauren Durrer Birth Services.

childbirth classes

Lauren is currently teaching two courses: a comprehensive childbirth class and a home and birth center class.

The comprehensive class is a 10-week course that is especially great for first-time moms, women seeking an unmedicated or low-intervention birth, and moms desiring a VBAC. Women birthing in any setting will benefit from the comprehensive class. As the name suggests, this course is thorough in its coverage of pregnancy, labor and delivery, and all of the choices/options available to you along way. Some of the topics we cover include nutrition and exercise for pregnancy, pelvic floor health, how to recognize and work through the different stages of labor, comfort measures and relaxation practices, optimal labor positions, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding, and more!

For families pursing a birth outside of the hospital, the 4-week home and birth center class will prepare you for the particulars of your special birth environment. You will learn how to prepare your mind and body for labor while you are still pregnant, and helpful and practical techniques to gently work through the different phases of labor. We will also cover comfort measures, relaxation, and labor practice.

Birth Doula

Studies show that women who have the support of a doula during labor report more positive birth experiences, have shorter labors, are less likely to have a cesarean - just to name a few of the benefits. As a doula, Lauren’s goal is to help women have the birth they want to have. Your birth is your story, and she desires to help you write it in such a way that you approach your birth with expectant joy and take on labor with peaceful strength. And as you do, Lauren will strive to provide you with physical and emotional support that allows you to triumph through labor and move with grace into your postpartum journey.

Birth Plan Consultation

Birth plans can be a powerful tool! Even more than conveying your desires to your care provider, the process of writing a birth plan is a vital one. It allows you and your partner to consider in advance each of the choices you will be presented leading up to and during the birth of your child, and replaces fear with confidence through the knowledge you will build as you consider your options.

Let’s also address what a birth plan isn’t. It isn’t a list of demands and it isn’t written under the assumption that every step of your labor and birth will follow exactly as you have outlined. In fact, for a lot of women, their birth may take a turn or two off of the road they envisioned being on. But that doesn’t mean the journey can’t be a wonderful one! Unexpected detours don’t have to be scary, or even unwanted, when you have learned about and discussed your options in advance.
