Plan for Success
You may have heard the saying before, “a goal without a plan is just a dream.” This concept is something that I have been surrounded by in the last month of my life – from podcasts to books to every day conversations with friends. I hear it from different people but the same theme keeps coming up. I can say that I was living out this saying in a few areas of my life and saw my own success happening from sticking to the plan. Let me expound.
At the beginning of the year, I set a goal to lose 50 pounds by the end of 2018. I also set a goal to run two consecutive miles in less than 12 minutes. Both goals were extremely ambitious and made me not only feel uncomfortable sharing them with people, but even thinking about doing them made me feel uncomfortable. I knew that this was important to me. I had let my weight get out of control and I was done. I was ready to gain back my true health and continue to work at it the rest of my life.
I can proudly say that as of last week I have lost 30 pounds. So I am more than half way there. The success came from having a plan and sticking to the plan no matter what. For my running, I started at running eight minute miles for my two-mile run and am now about to be under 7 minutes per miles. I am almost half way there with this goal. I have a plan with my training and it is all about sticking to it.
I am sharing this because I know so many of us have specific health goals that we have yet to reach for different reasons. I want to encourage you today to first dream about them. Next, write them down and then develop your plan to succeed. Finally, do it and stick to it. You can absolutely do it with the right focus, determination and consistency.
